    "WHAT is SNOEZELEN"

    "WHAT is SNOEZELEN"

    • Snoezelen - is made up of two words, snuffelen (to seek out and explore) and doezlen (to relax).

    • Snoezelen - is a concept that attempts to provide a relaxing, multi-sensory experience by blending sights, sounds, textures, and aromas, all within a safely controlled environment.

    • Snoezelen - was originally developed for children and adults with disabilities, or other limiting conditions.

    • Snoezelen - is based on the six primary senses: Sight, Smell, Taste, Touch, Hearing, Movement.

    • Snoezelen - provides stimulation to these senses by the use of Lighting Effects, Tactile Surfaces, Soothing Music, Relaxing Oils, Vibrating/Motion Relaxation, with fascinating visual displays.

    • Snoezelen - benefits mild to severe learning disabilities, Autism, Sensory Disabilities, Emotional Disturbances, Dementia, Visual Impairments.

    • Snoezelen - is a user controlled environment. Caregivers need to surrender their control at the door and let the individual lead the experience.

    • Snoezelen - is a one on one program.

    • Snoezelen - gives the individual a chance to see what they can do for themselves first before doing it for them. Help them achieve their own success and provide them with lots of praise and encouragement.

    • Snoezelen - is a wonderful opportunity to be able to;

      1. 1. interact with the residents
        2. to give one on one patient centered care
        3. opportunity for a better quality of life
        4. and to stimulate them in a positive way
        5. and to allow an experience of real relaxation
