    Letters from Parents and Guardians

Recently a request was sent to the parents and guardians of our residents asking several questions about Vernon Manor Children's Home. We also asked if they would be willing to share their experiences to be placed on our web site for those of you that may be looking for placement for your child to read. If after reading you have any questions please give me a call. Jerrie McCoy 1-260-563-8448 ext. 214.

Keith has been at Vernon Manor for over 28 years. Before his mother and I came to the fact that we could no longer care for him at home we looked at many facilities in Indiana, Illinois, etc. We have counted our blessings many many times for placing him at Vernon Manor. 28 years ago Vernon Manor was plenty small compared to now. However each year that goes by Keith's mom and I have felt that Keith has received excellent care. It's not easy to give up your son or daughter to a special care facility when your not sure that he or she understands "why". Our mental anguish was great at the time we placed Keith at Vernon Manor. As the years passed we know that Keith has a special place to call home. I could go on and on about how grateful his mother and I are. I hope that you convey to your entire staff what a Godly gift that each and everyone of them gives these unfortunate kids each and every day. May God bless and keep each one that is associated with Vernon Manor. With all my appreciation and gratitude.

My son came to Vernon Manor weighing 88 pounds now he weights 188 pounds. He talks at times and really seems happy and I'm even happier. In March of 1993 my son Elvis was in a deadly auto accident. It was devastating; he was taken to the hospital where we lived at the time. They did all that they could for Elvis and sent him to another hospital where they to did all they could before sending him to a Geriatric facility. Elvis was only 18 at the time. I felt his needs were so different from the facility where he was placed. I prayed and complained until they sent us to Indianapolis to Riley's Children's Hospital. They were a miracle in our life. Elvis was there for two months when they told us to find a long-term facility for him. Vernon Manor was mentioned to us. We came to Vernon Manor and they welcomed us with open hearts. They did not put my son out when he started to get better because he was still totally dependent on others. My son was so depressed and still could not feed himself. Vernon Manor staff went through surgery after surgery with my son and helped him out of his depression and so much more. It would take me several pages to tell our story but the short of the story is we are so blessed to have found Vernon Manor Children's Home. Yes it may be 2 hours and 15 minutes from us but it is worth it to see the smile on his face and the contentment he actually sleeps at night. He is just a living miracle and owes 11 years of it to Vernon Manor. I sleep now to and have peace of mind. This is a place where people actually care about you and your loved ones. Vernon Manor has my number 1 vote.

The staff is very attendant and caring. They are more like family and treat our granddaughter like one of their own. Holiday's and Birthday's are always special not only to our granddaughter but to all of the residents. Vernon Manor makes them all feel special and the staff does its best to make all of them feel like they do have a family who cares.

I don't think I could have picked a better place than Vernon Manor. The staff is always kind and courteous. They will do anything you ask of them. They always answer any questions we have about Anthony. Jerrie McCoy is the sweetest person we have ever met. The other staff is sweet, Kelly Martin and the maintenance man is funny and seems to really love the kids.

I could not be happier than to have Jennifer at Vernon Manor. It takes a load off me. In March of 1974 my ex-wife called and said that Jennifer was being mistreated at the facility she was in and we had to find her a new home. I had talked to a friend about Vernon Manor but knew nothing about it. I called to see if we could come and see Vernon Manor ourselves and was told to come anytime we have an "open door" policy. It was a cold, rainy terrible night and not a good time to visit but we came anyway. We were very impressed with what we saw. We even went through the kitchen and found everything to be clean. Jennifer was admitted a few days later and has lived there for 31 years. We are very happy with Vernon Manor.

Vernon Manor is an excellent facility. The people are the greatest. When I would visit everything was so clean and orderly. My daughter, Mary Beth was always very clean, dressed and happy. She giggles a lot. My mother and I visited one day. We were leaving and getting in my car when the therapist came out the door. She wanted to know if she could do anything for Mary Beth. She said she missed seeing us inside so she came out and checked with us before we got away. How many places would do that? Another time they got Mary Beth a new wheelchair and wanted to know what color that I would like for Mary Beth. I said purple would be fine. Two months later I visited again and I had crocheted an afghan for her. It was purple, lavender and white. The girl at the desk saw the afghan when I told her it was for Mary Beth she said that is really pretty and it will go with her wheelchair. How did she remember? You are super people who do a super job! You are all in my prayers each night. Thank you all so much you are all appreciated.
