    History

Since built in 1968, Vernon Manor Children's Home has built a reputation for providing high quality service to those with developmentally disabilities in a home like atmosphere of Love and Attention.

Dr. Zydlo of Wabash and several of his business associates had the Home built having a son born with Down's Syndrome, he realized from first hand experience that children with "special needs" would need to be cared for in a more specialized manner than that of a conventional nursing home.

Clara Butcher, mother of Loretta Lynn, was one of the very first nurse aides to work for Vernon Manor Children's Home.

Vernon Manor Children's Home became not-for-profit in 1989, and is governed by a Board of Directors known as Hoosier Care and managed by Jefferson Medical.
