I was born and raised in Wabash County, and after working in surrounding counties for the past 15 years, I couldn't be happier about coming home. That's how I feel about coming to Vernon Manor as the new Director of Nursing.
I have been in the field of nursing for the past 18 years, working my way up through the ranks as a Certified Nursing Assistant, a Qualified Medicine Aide, a Licensed Practical Nurse, and then finally, a Registered Nurse. Being a student is a way of life for me. Someone once told me when you cease to learn, you cease to live. I am a firm believer in that philosophy. I have degrees from Ball State University and Indiana University, and am planning to return to school next fall.
I have experience in long-term care and emergency nursing, but my primary focus for the past 10 years, and my area of expertise is in pediatrics. I just love taking care of kids! You get to watch cartoons, you get to play with toys, and you get to wear fun clothes to work every day. It really keeps a heart young.
I'm married to Brad, and together we have five great kids -- all in their teen years. We spend every night sitting on bleachers watching talented daughters play volleyball, or our talented son play football. In our spare time, we raise beef cattle on our small farm in La Fontaine.
There are milestones in all our lives. With each milestone we learn and grow. Throughout my career, the following poem has influenced many of my life choices and decisions:
A hundred years from now It will not matter What my bank account was, The sort of house I lived in Or the kind of car I drove But the world may be different Because I was important In the life of a child
I feel as though every experience I've had up until this point in my life has helped to prepare me, not only to do this job at Vernon Manor, but to do it well. I'm glad to be home at last!
