Hi! My name is Gini Himes. I first began working for Vernon Manor Children's Home in 1996 as an activity aide while waiting to take the C.N.A. class. I completed the course and worked as a C.N.A. just more than a year before transferring back to the Activities Department. During that time I received my CDL and complete the Activity Director's course and now hold a State Certificate as an Indiana Activities Director.
I also worked for a short period of time at the day service programs & schools that our residents attend.
In May 2004 the Activity Assistant Director position became available & I excitedly applied (and faithfully prayed) for the position. I was offered the challenge and loved every minute of it. In February of 2005, I was promoted to QMRPD (Qualified Mental Retardation Professional Designee)/Habilitation Program Director, a position I had coveted from the beginning of my career at Vernon Manor Children's Home.
I am married and have two daughters, a son and a step-daughter who all enjoy volunteering at Vernon Manor for outings, special events, and activities.
I am a member of the Church of Christ at Grissom. I serve as a nursery attendant and witness through special music with my daughters during worship service.
I enjoy and am blessed by serving others; I have enjoyed serving these residents in many different capacities. Each day, each one adds an abundance of blessing to my life. And I think I need them as much as they need me. Working at Vernon Manor Children's Home is a great opportunity to make a positive difference in a child's life. I thank God everyday for the opportunities He has given me. My hobbies include attending church events, camping with my family, cake decorating, painting, and gardening.
