Deloris has been a certified activities director since 1995. She began as a volunteer here at Vernon Manor Children's Home in 1993 shortly after her daughter succumbed to heart failure due to complications from CMV.

It wasn't long before Deloris knew that volunteering was not enough, she began working at Vernon Manor as a certified nursing assistant only a few months later. She continued working and volunteering for the next year. In 1994 she joined the activity department where she worked as the activity assistant training under her mentor Dot Hoeksema. In 1999 she left to pursue other interests, during that time she continued to volunteer at Vernon Manor Children's Home. It was in 2002 that the fates brought her back here to Vernon Manor.

"I knew that I had found my true calling. There is quite a lot of planning that goes into each activity. One of the coolest things on this earth for me is to see people smiling and enjoying the moment and know that I had something to do with that."

Deloris spends her free time remodeling her 91 year old home, cheering on her children at sporting events, and exploring Indiana with her family. "I am the self-proclaimed queen of free entertainment." She hopes to one day become an author and already has many story ideas that are just waiting to become books.
