A - Activity Program - Activities range from Pet Therapy, outings to community and state events, visits to the Zoo, to the park, shopping, concerts, monthly birthday parties and more. For more detailed information please visit our web site at www.vernonmanor.com.
B - Babies to Young Adult - Built in 1968, we have always served individuals who are challenged with mental, physical, and developmental disabilities ages, ranging from birth to young adult. Each potential resident is assessed individually to assure their needs are met.
C - Community School Programming - Wabash-Miami Area Program has provided educational services for those students who reside at Vernon Manor since 1974. Once residents are out of school, they are eligible for sheltered work shop in Wabash.
D - Dietary - We provide a complete nutritional management program that includes regular and therapeutic diets prepared by our registered dietitian for G-tube, J-tube, diabetic, and other eating difficulties.
E - Environmental Services - Our laundry service runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our housekeeping duties include strict policies and procedures for infection control. We are proud of the cleanliness and odor free environment provided for our residents.
F - Food Sanitation - Several of the Vernon Manor dietary staff hold Serv-Safe Food Sanitation Certificates. This includes extensive training in food handling and safe food temperature control.
G - Geographical Location - See the back of this brochure for directions or you may visit our web site. We are approximately 20 minutes from Huntington Memorial Hospital and less than 35 minutes from Parkview Memorial Hospital of Fort Wayne.
H - Habilitation Therapy - is available 12 hours a day 6 days a week. We have state of the art prone standers, a high-lo table and many therapeutic devices to assist in the maintenance of each residents mobility. Also utilized in the care of each resident are five hydro-massage whirlpool tubs.
I - In-house School Programming - is provided to those residents that are too medically fragile to go out into regular school programming. Our newly decorated school room is equipped with computer programs that are able to be used with touch switches. This program has been available since 1974.
J - Joy - It is such a joy to serve our population and see the progress each individual accomplishes. It is hard work but the reward is incredible. The smiles and laughter make each day an unforgettable experience.
K - Kids are People First - Every program is geared towards the fact that our residents are people who have feelings, desires, and needs just like you and I. They are important and treated with the love and respect they so richly deserve.
L - Long Term Care - Our facility provides 24 hour a day, 7 days a week skilled care services. Most Medicaid programs will cover the cost. Prior to each admission, it is determined as to whether the program is suited for your needs. We are able to assist you in enrolling into the program required for your loved ones stay.
M - Maintenance - Vernon Manor has back-up energy power for lights, outlets, and telephones, central air-conditioning throughout, automatic smoke detectors, duct detectors, sprinkler system, and electrically controlled automatic fire alarms.
N - Not-for-Profit - since 1968. Your contribution is tax deductible.
O - Overnight accommodations - Discounted rates are available for families at a nearby motel.
P - PsychLabsIndy - Psyche Labs of Indianapolis provide comprehensive mental and neurobehavioral health services to residents at Vernon Manor on an as needed basis, collaborating efforts with the treatment to achieve positive outcomes.
Q - QMRPD - A full time Qualified Mental Retardation Professional Designee is on staff and works with each individual providing community services to enhance each persons activity of daily living.
R - Respiratory Services - Specializing in oxygen therapy, trach care inhalation therapy, suctioning, CPAP, pulse oximetry, and Apnea monitoring.
S - Skilled Nursing Care - Please see "List of Services" included in this packet.
T - Transportation - Available is a custom made charter-size bus, a customized school bus and two vans for transport.
U - U are important to us - Parents Auxiliary meet quarterly at VMCH. Care Plan meetings include U. Parties, cookouts and special events are scheduled throughout the year. There is an open door visitation policy for family members. Spiritual and Psychological counseling available at no charge.

W - Whirlpool Hydro - Massage Tubs - A total of five tubs are included in the care of each resident.
X - Xperience - More than 60% have 3 to 37 years longevity totaling nearly 700 years experience.

Z - Zebra - sorry, we don't have a Zebra on the grounds, however, we do have two pediatricians, a Dentist, an Ophthalmologist, and a Physical Therapist who routinely visit our residents at Vernon Manor Children's Home.
